After conquering the airwaves, Adventures in Odyssey now comes in a CD format that enables parents to play it repeatedly to their children. A home-video series and computer games were also produced out of the drama’s concept. In 1994, Adventures in Odyssey Bible was also published and tagged itself as “the best kid-friendly Bible ever”.
Because of the good following and content of the Adventures in Odyssey books, CD’s and videos, they have now become good bible study materials. Facilitators of children bible studies regard including it in bible study curriculum as a good bible study idea since it can easily capture the attention and interest of children, and made teaching biblical lessons much easier.
Aside from being considered for children’s bible studies, Adventures in Odyssey has also shown a positive effect among its children followers. Since it was originally played on radios, parents were able to note improvements on their children in terms of imaginative thinking, memory retention and vocabulary.
With this success come some controversies, however. Some critics claim that the topics being covered by the radio drama was too old-fashioned, thus, sounding too conservative and traditional. Its producers were also criticized for touching subjects such as abortion and the Vietnam War in a radio-drama that is specifically intended for young listeners.
Despite these controversies, Adventures in Odyssey has managed to be the 2nd most popular Christian radio show in the United States in 1995, aired on more than 6,000 radio stations world wide, and garnered a sales of over a million for its CDs.
Adventures in Odyssey books, CD’s, and animated videos are now available in Christian bookstore worldwide.
